In the framework of the Ludovika Scholarship Program, Dr. Ahmet Nuredini, Colonel of the General Directorate of Police of the Republic of Kosovo, Professor of the Kosovo University of Public Security, visited the Ludovika University of Public Service from 18 to 22 March 2023. Dr. Nuredini has nearly 24 years of professional experience in law enforcement. His doctoral research focuses on information security and information security related crimes.
The first lecture of the guest speaker took place on 19 March 2024 in the afternoon at the Ludovika Campus under the title „Information security with the main focus on the criminal offenses related to the information security”.
At the beginning of the lecture, NTCS Colonel Andrea Szabó Head of Department, Vice-Dean for Acadenic and International Affairs of the Faculty of Law Enforcement and Dr. Iván Gyurcsik, Program Director of Ludovika Scholars, welcomed Professor Nuredini. The lecture was honoured by the presence of the Dean of the Faculty of Law Enforcement of the Ludovika University of Public Service, Major General Dr. Gábor Kovács, police colonel Dr. Ferenc Szendrei, the Head of the Department of Crime, Economic Protection and Cybercrime and several colleagues of the Department.
Dr. Nuredini's presentation outlined the main rules on data protection in Kosovo, which are very similar to both international and domestic practices. The speaker discussed the rationale of security of information and personal data as constitutional rights that need to be protected in the context of societal interests, foreshadowing the vision of a future international standardisation of universal rights.
In the context of information security, the Professor stressed that the greatest risk factor is the human being. The lecture provided an insight into the difficulties faced by the Kosovo internal security services after the South Slavic war in terms of the reliability of experienced professionals, the potential risks they faced and the effective prevention of crime and criminal prevention. The speaker then presented the most common crimes committed in cyberspace, the international trends, and the results of his PhD research on information security and targeted crimes for information acquisition in different Kosovo law enforcement agencies.
His presentation was illustrated with a number of professional examples and video films. Finally, the students asked the lecturer questions on the subject, which he was happy to answer.
